The collaboration with Rooijakkers ends in 2008. In the meantime the
next generation has been presented.
Since 11 november 2008 Jan and his son Kees are the owners of Ligthart
Bloembollen V.O.F

At the age of 13 Jan started to grow tulips in the backyard of his
father. With his first money he bought small amounts of
Picture, Golden Melody, Golden Mirjoran and Monte Carlo. In his spare
time he worked at several flowerbulb company's to learn how to grow
bulbs. In the meantime his own varieties were growing fast.
When Jan is 17 he makes his first crossing. One of the parents was
Golden Melody. It was a very succesfull crossing, children of this
crossing are Dakar and Agrass Gold. Besides making his own crossings, Jan
was also very succesfull in finding mutations. He found Washington, Creme Upstar
and Alladin's Record in those days.
In 1983 the brothers Jan and DIrk bought their own shed. Together they
started Gebr. Ligthart. In 1987 the first shed is becoming to small for
the brothers, they build a bigger one. A few years
later Dirk decided to go his own way. From that moment on Jan and
his wife José continue the business with the two of them.
